As an American I thought about buying Miramax's edition of this movie and I'm so glad I didn't. The Miramax edition has over 15 minutes cut. Truly a wonderful movie and it has English subtitles! In addition this has many extras-interviews with the director and stars, the promotion tour of the U.S. and Canada, etc. 2 Discs! Unfortunately the extra features aren't subtitled. The American version may have Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez but it doesn't have Takenaka Naoto! He steals every scene he's in!

初期のピンク映画はいざ知らず、メジャーで公開された「ファンシイ・ダンス」「シコふんじゃった」「Shall We ダンス?」、３作品すべてを一級のエンタテイメント作品に仕上げた周防正行監督は日本映画を代表する監督の１人だ。
周防監督の『Shall We ダンス?』はアメリカでの興業も大成功し、黒澤作品の記録を塗り替え、最大の興行収入を記録した。
その、『Shall We ダンス?』全米公開顛末記を監督自らが記した「『Shall We ダンス?』アメリカを行く」は、映画興業システムの違いを通して見事に日米文化の差を浮き彫りにした好著だったが、2004年にハリウッドでリメイクされた『Shall We ダンス?』の製作を巡っての顛末記を描いた本書もまた、日本文化とアメリカ文化と間に横たわる深い溝を、面白おかしく伝えてくれる。
映画に興味のある人や、日米文化の違いに興味のある人には、超が付くほどのおすすめ本だ。
